Dr Ismat Nasiruddin

She has held posts in several busy London teaching hospitals with a particular interest in psychiatry (she worked as a senior registrar in psychiatry), gynaecology/obstetrics, hormonal therapy (PCOS, HRT) sexual health, family planning, and paediatrics. She was a finalist in the GP Registrar of the Year in 2000 and, since completing her vocational training in general practice, has worked as a GP in Kensington. She also enjoys hospital based casualty work and continues to work shifts in various A&Es in London (Imperial College).

Dr. Nasiruddin holds membership of the Royal College of GPs, the Diploma of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists as well as the Diploma in Family Planning and Letter of Competence in IUD Coil fittings and subdermal contraceptive implants. She is also a fellow of the Royal College of Public Health with an interest in occupational medicine and holds a qualification in minor surgery, running the minor surgery and coil clinics at the practice.

Dr Nasiruddin swam at national level and still competes in triathlons for fun. She is married with two very energetic children.

Interests are Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Sexual Health & Family Planning, Minor surgery/aesthetic medicine.

Dr Catherine Ellis

After working in a variety of hospital specialities for 4 years, Dr. Cath Ellis completed her vocational training in General Practice.  She joined the practice team in 2010 initially as a locum and has been a permanent member of the team since 2014. She holds the Diploma of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, as well as the Diploma of Child Health, and has recently completed a Respiratory Diploma in order to gain further expertise in the management of Asthma and COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease).

In her spare time she enjoys travel and keeping fit.

Interests are Child Health, General Medicine, Health Promotion.

Dr Shazia Ovaisi

After successfully completing a medical rotation at Kings College London and obtaining her Membership of The Royal College of Physicians (MRCP), she decided to pursue a career in General Practice. She has completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Dermatology (at Barts) and is a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP).

In addition to her clinical work, she has been awarded a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Academic Fellowship; this combines a Masters in Public Health at The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine with Stroke Research at St George’s University of London.

Shazia has volunteered with an NGO in Kashmir following the 2005 earthquake in Pakistan and most recently she worked on a social action project in a rural healthcare centre in Rwanda.

Interests are General Medicine, Dermatology, Public Health and International Development.

Dr Johnathan Christopher

Dr Christopher graduated with honours from St George’s Hospital Medical School in 2003 and after his house jobs, spent a year in Melbourne where he had some excellent Emergency Medicine exposure. He also undertook Cardiology, Plastic Surgery and Orthopaedic rotations.

For those of you who are fans of the soap ‘Neighbours’ – he actually worked in the original ‘Neighbours’ hospital, spending his lunchtimes in the surrounds of ‘Erinsborough’ and ‘Ramsey Street’!

He joined the VTS scheme in Surrey, completing rotations in Paediatrics, Care of the Elderly and Obstetrics and Gynaecology and took his first GP role in Weybridge, before moving back to SW London.

His special interests include Sports and Exercise Medicine owing to a very keen interest in sport, minor surgery, joint injections and teaching. He also has a private interest in skin cancer detection and digital mole mapping (including working with the first team players and staff at Surrey CCC) as well as Aesthetic Medicine in which he has over a decade’s worth of experience. He is also a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners.

He’s a very keen cricketer and captains one of the teams at Battersea Ironsides CC, and is a very keen tennis player too. Basically throw him a ball and he’ll fetch it! A huge fan of travel, nature and animals and unlike Dr Esdon, supports a successful football team in Liverpool FC!

Dr Sajid Patel

University of Karachi in 1981 as a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery.
He spent five years working as a GP in Karachi where he single-handedly ran an urban practice of some 2,000 patients. Since moving to the UK he has gained a Professional Certificate in Managing Health Services, a postgraduate diploma in Management Studies and an MBA. He is also a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners. Sajid has worked for St. George’s and Queen Mary’s Hospitals in Obstetrics, Gynaecology, A&E and Minor Surgery and still does weekly sessions at the University Hospital Lewisham A&E department. He is also currently training to acquire a postgraduate diploma in ENT.

In October 2005, Dr Patel was part of a volunteer medical relief team who flew to Pakistan to assist in the aftermath of the earthquake. Dr Patel was also a Director at Medical Referrals International for six years. He has lived in Wandsworth for 19 years and his interests include table-tennis and cricket.

Interests are Accident and Emergency, ENT.

Dr Sheena Patel

After completing her medical training at Oxford in 2017, Sheena undertook further training in a wide range of medical and surgical specialties at the John Radcliffe Hospital (Oxford) and Kingston Hospital (London).

She is a certified Lifestyle Medicine doctor, having completed a specialist diploma in this area, and is focused on analysing and optimising the lifestyle factors that contribute to the progression of long term disease. She is particularly interested in the nutritional aspects of lifestyle medicine, and has undertaken further training in this area. She also has a special interest in Women’s Health, having completed the Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

She joined the practice as a permanent member of the team in September 2022, and lives locally in Wandsworth. As well as working here, she is completing a GP fellowship, and also provides undergraduate teaching to medical students from St George’s University London.

Outside of work, she enjoys cooking, hiking, travelling and photography. She combines these passions by maintaining a successful healthy eating blog.

Dr Emily Northern

She has worked in hospitals in the South West as well as London. She trained in Paediatrics for several years, gaining her MRCPCH, before changing to General Practice training in North West London, gaining her MRCGP in 2019. Dr Northern has worked at Thurleigh road Practice since 2022. Her clinical interests include child and adolescent health, and diabetes. She is also interested in medical education.

Eva went to the Midlands for university and graduated from the University of Birmingham Medical School in 2012 with MbChB with first degree honours as part of her medical degree, she has been able to spend some time working in Savusavu, Fiji and travelled around New Zealand where she is keen to go back to.

She completed her foundation medical training there before moving back to London in 2014 and commencing her GP training.
She joined Thurleigh Road Practice in August 2016 as a GP registrar and moved to a salaried GP role in July 2017

Currently living in Wandsworth, she enjoys travelling, good food and reading.

Interests: palliative care, sexual health and ENT.

Once qualified, Tor specialised in oncology and haematology working at the Middlesex, Barts and the London hospital in various capacities within haematology and oncology.
She then left nursing and completed a degree in Social Anthropology. Since then she has travelled extensively working and teaching nursing in southern India. On her return she worked with families and friends of drugs users within the London Prisons.

She returned to nursing 14 years ago working in Primary Care and completed a Masters as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in 2013

Since then has worked in A&E/urgent assessment units in Manchester to then work in Australia for a year before joining general practice. Sophia has now been in general practice for over two years and joined Thurleigh Practice in 2018.

She has also done a 3 month elective/volunteering as a nurse in Tanzania. She now lives locally and has an interest in respiratory illnesses.

I qualified from the London School of Osteopathy in 2009 and have worked in both private practice and the NHS. I believe that prevention is better than cure that as a society we need to take greater responsibility for own health. I regularly practise the Chinese internal healing arts of Bagua, Qigong and Tai Chi which promote both physical and mental wellbeing.

Having a background in Chinese martial arts, swimming and cricket, numerous other sports and functional exercise has given me valuable experience to help people self-manage and find health.

Neil Lazenby has spent many years in corporate management at a senior level. During his career he has led and shaped businesses to become successful operations.

He joined the Practice in September 2022 fulfilling an ambition to work in the public sector and utilise his skills and experience in an NHS setting. Outside of work his main passion is classic cars, and he is also a long-suffering fan of Fulham F.C.

Non-urgent advice: Administrators

Our Referral Administrators deal with referrals queries and help co-ordinate the Choose and Book system. They are the main contact should patients have queries relating to their referrals.

Our IT Support Officer works with the management team in ensuring our IT systems work smoothly, providing data to streamline our services to patients, and troubleshooting the many and varied problems that arise with IT.

Non-urgent advice: Medical Assistants / Care Coordinators

The Medical Assistants provide a variety of technical, clerical and patient care services.

They support and work closely with the clinical and management team.  They deal with core workload of medicine management i.e. repeat prescription requests, EPS services, nominating pharmacies and Online Patient Triage (Non medical querries).

They also deal with non-clinical correspondence, email management, registering patients and support referral administrators.

Reception Team

Reception team provide an important link for patients with the practice and are your initial contact point for general enquiries. They can provide basic information on services and results and navigate you to the right person depending on your health issue or query.  They are unable to provide you with medical advice and can only answer general queries.
